Tried the remote start using the key fob, and some lights on the exterior blinked but nothing, but a clicking sound or two. Tried starting the car from the push button and then the car stuttered like it had a weak battery.

You have to make sure it is closed all the way for the remote to lock all the doors..funny that the inside lights on dash did not indicate that the back trunk was open ...If it's the original battery, just replace it. It's surprising it has lasted this long with only 11k miles of driving over 5 years. After replacing, I'd seriously consider getting a smart battery maintainer and use it overnight every week or two. This will offset the lack of driving and keep your battery in tip top condition.
