It appears to have been refinished but not by S&W at some point. A good cleaning and treatment for any rusting and it should make a good shooter. They weren't made at an even x-number per year, so extrapolating your serial in that range isn't going to be exact. If the production was relatively linear then I'd guess 1928- ish.The early Model 60's were numbered in the Chiefs Special Series to 786544.
