I have recently acquired what looks like a Browning auto 5 with a date code of "d" which means either 1925 or 1965. I was told by the previous owner that it had been in the family since 1925 BUT the shotgun also has a controller of proof codes mark of "H*" which seems to only have been used from 1938-1968. Looking for info on a FN Browning A5 12 Gauge I purchased a couple days ago. Serial number is 60 26149 with a number 1 above it. Barrel reads "fabrique nationale d'armes de guerre herstal-belique", below it "Acier Special C12 CART 2 3/4" and is solid ribbed. Proof markings on action side of gun and bolt are pictured.
