Sounds like a balloon letting the air out while pinching the flap. It will set the world on fire from 1st-4th but as soon as it hit 5th it falls on its face. The truck won't accelerate even pushing the pedal to 3/4 throttle then it drops to 4th and takes off again.

Same for your fuel filter. If your filter isn't letting enough fuel pass through, your engine isn't going to accelerate the way you need. Trouble starting your engine is another indicator that your fuel filter is clogged. If you've got a full tank of diesel and your engine won't start, there's a good chance your filter may need changing.

Once each day for about 5 minutes while running at interstate speeds I had a power loss with excessive black smoke. Regen issues, thumping sound from the motor, and a few other smaller things. The fuel pumps don't appear to be an issue on the L5P motors.
