Yes, elemental LS (and elemental damage in general) is meta over raw for most situations. There are a few enemies, namely Valstrax, where raw might be better due to the elemental resistances varying based on state, but typically you can just use whichever element is the weakness of the monster and you'll do more DPS over the course of the hunt.

Longsword is an easy weapon to start with, but has a VERY high skill ceiling due to needing to master counters. As such, don't be upset if it takes you time to finish hunts, we all need to learn, after all, some of the moves were just introduced in MHW/Iceborne so some players like me, didn't get to practice the move.
The reason elemental longsword isn't recommended is because longsword has no bonuses to elemental damage, doesn't attack the fastest, and actually has a unique multiplier for raw damage (the sword gauge levels).
