I've changed the lube in mine twice, at 400 and 800 hours. These gearboxes are not repairable if they fail, at least JD doesn't carry parts or seals, they just sell you another gearbox. The original gearbox on my 54C deck failed (input shaft bearing) at 125 hours, well within the warranty period.
