Glenfield 30a vs marlin 336.
A 1X-4X will be effective at greater distances than the .35 Remington is practical for a shot at game. At the low end, you can find the game animal at 15yds to 20yds in thick cover. At 4X, if you know the drop, you can easily place the shot, (or at least the crosshairs), out to 300yds. Making the shot is shooter dependent.
Can a Marlin Glenfield 30a be modified to use 336 furniture? Mr Brophy's book on Marlins says that they were made from 1964 to 1970 with the half mag. The early ones were marked as the 36G and the rest as Glenfield model 30. He says that 5,930 Model 36G were produced in 1964-65. Then 77,603 Model 30's were produced until 1970. 1971 brought the 30A which had the full mag tube.The Glenfield line was intended to be resold at a profit by mass merchandisers - thus the less expensive wood. For the 30A itself, it was the model following the Glenfield 30 - the difference being a full length magazine tube for the 30A. Over a quarter million of this model were made.
