It really is the exhaust heat shields, extensive on the Subaru because the exhaust is directly under the engine. NO PROBLEM with ticking after shutdown. The world has had this same ticking with exhaust systems forever, but the Foz is worse because of the large number of heat shields on it.

Doesn't happen when engine is off or in neutral, only makes the noise when: Put in clutch. Put in gear, remove from gear. Let out clutch (noise) If I don't put it in/out of gear, there is no noise.
