Just kept going directly to the "We're behind" message. Turned the app off for about 20 mins and it started working again. Wouldn't recommend this while you're working though. Uber supposedly put a stop to this sort of thing. By only charging/awarding the fee if the driver also made significant progress towards the pick up. In other words, the driver shouldn't get the fee if they accept and don't move. Not true you have to be within 3 minutes of the pickup location to be charged a fee.
