Yes; because you cannot have two players living in the same house. You can only live together with the partner you marry ingame, and atm you can only marry the npc's. My husband and I play, but we can’t live in the same house. We built 2 starting houses and were settled in them.
But having better quality houses reduces the consumption of wood/firewood. Its not about warmth its about mood. The bigger and more upgraded and better quality the house, the higher the mood.
