Revit has a tendency to crash a lot when model size gets up there so typically workflow will vary. With a large multi-family building my experience is that a floor is modeled as a single element. With a single family residence I've often modeled joists, decking, finish floor and ceiling separately.

SolidWorks is not used AT ALL in construction. Revit/AutoCAD is the standard. Revit primarily used for coordination and BIM, AutoCAD for drafting. SolidWorks is the more complicated of the two, so you can certainly learn AutoCAD/Revit, probably by stumbling around on the job, but not at all the same thing. I have serious issue with Autodesk's subscription model, which uses an abstract credit system to gouge customers, and at the end of the day purposefully obfuscates their customer's data into unreadable .rvt files. There are no serious competitors to Revit. The closest alternatives are SketchUp and Rhino3D.
Once I switched to pen tablet, all the pain disappeared. And I can use the tablet for work like sketching in photosho, making annotations in a whiteboard.
